Catalan League: Microbank, Champion

The final of the women’s Catalan League was played in Sant Fruitós de Bages between Microbank of El Masnou and Caixa Tarragona. In the preliminary round, both teams had no trouble getting past Manresa and earning their place in the final.

The final was dominated at every moment by Microbank, who were always 6 to 10 points ahead on the scoreboard. Caixa Tarragona had its best players in Royster and Llop. The American battled under the boards and knew how to take advantage of her jumping ability. Roser Llop was the machine gun (10/12) in charge of hammering the opposing basket. But that was not enough to keep Anna Junyer from emerging as the star of the game and handing the win to her new team. She alone was able to tear apart the opposing defense. She scored almost half of Microbank’s points, and in the second half alone she put in 28. Alongside her, Annie Norris and Lluïsa Bisetti also stood out.

María Planas chalked up the first title of the season against Sílvia Font, her former pupil from her time at Comansi. The Catalan League once again met its goal and served as a warm-up for the three Catalan teams in the top division.

Microbank: 74 points. Scorers: Castillo (6), Zapata (5), Pont (3), Junyer (34), Solana (1), Bisetti (8), Long (3) and Norris (14).

Caixa Tarragona: 63 points. Scorers: Royster (16), Clarà (4), Bilbao (6), Vila (5), Reixach (1), Asforis (8) and Llop (23).

Referees: Pizarro and Martín Beltrán.
